Time again to look at a handful of guys who are treating Class A like their own personal country club. Bo Greenwell and Jeremie Tice are in “see ball, hit ball” mode right now. The teammates, who both play for the Lake County Captains, are both hitting over .400 so far this season. Together, they’ve driven in 31 runs, which is roughly 40% of the entire team’s production. Semi-congratulations to Clinton Lumberking Anthony Vasquez, who...

Fully Ridiculous A-Ball Stats of Opening Night

You get some crazy stat lines out of a small sample size. Since I’m on the A classification beat this year, I thought I’d check out who had the best start, and for hitters, it’s definitely this guy: Kyle Conley, LF, Quad Cities River Bandits (Cardinals): .750 AVG, 2 R, 1 3B, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 2.000 SLG, 2.750 OPS Sounds like Kyle is ready to go up to the bigs and help out...

Meet the Sally League

While we’re sure you’ve grown to love and cherish our higgledy-piggledy random posting style, this year we got together and decided to present minor-league baseball with a certain regard for structure. My focus will be on Low-A and Short-Season A ball. For starters,...

Just a brief post to let you know that the new look of the blog is something we’re trying out. We were annoyed that author names weren’t put on posts in the old theme, so this nice, balldiamond-green layout seemed like a nice change. We kind of miss the photo of the Delmarva Shorebirds superchicken up above, but all good things must come to an end some day. Let us know what you think!

Bus Leagues in Baltimore

I went to a major-league game in Baltimore this Sunday. Rangers at Orioles, with a few of our old Z-meter regulars playing, like Felix Pie and Elvis Andrus. But my real Bus Leagues surprise came when I took the advice of an usher and visited the Sports Museum that was recently built next to Camden Yards. I was wandering around in the rather gloomy basement display area and found this: This bus was actually...

Spotlight on A Ball – West Virginia Power vs. Delmarva Shorebirds

Over the weekend, I visited the Delmarva peninsula with my family. It’s called that because it contains parts of Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia. Smack in the middle is a town called Salisbury, and that town is the home of the Delmarva Shorebirds, class A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. They were taking on the West Virginia Power (Brewers). So I made sure to catch the Sunday afternoon game with my son. Here are a...
