Last week I finally saw Moneyball. While the baseball community knows Moneyball for its unique perspective on team building, Moneyball is also unique as a baseball movie. As in the book, Moneyball the movie focuses on the struggle of the Oakland A’s to rebuild after the departure of Jason Giambi, Johnny Damon, and Jason Isringhausen. While the story of plucky underdogs who make the playoffs after their superstars leave the team is not unusual...

I made it back to Dunedin after the rained out game of last week. I once again brought my video camera. This video has a little more game action because of course there was more game action to see. Thanks to the staff at Dunedin for letting me bring my camera and enjoy their wonderful stadium. Enjoy.

The second game of the 2011 season. Completely frigid, and the Squirrels lost 7-1 to the New Britain Rock Cats, but at least there were fireworks afterward. And it was a night at the ballpark, which is always a good time.

You, Too, Can Have Chunk’s Autograph

Wait until the :35 second mark to see the only reason I felt obligated to post this. I believe those who enjoy classic films from the 1980s will fully support this decision. Also, I find it fascinating that the kid who played Chunk went on to become a lawyer, while the kid who played Mouth went on to become Corey Feldman.

It’s Raining, It’s Pouring…

I’m sitting in the press box at Merchantsauto.com Stadium, waiting for the Fisher Cats and Sea Dogs to get underway. Originally scheduled for 7:05, the game was delayed by the threat of a storm that arrived about ten minutes ago, bringing rain, thunder and lightning to the freshly tarped field. Watching New Hampshire’s staff execute a picture perfect tarp pull made me think of a video I saw on Rattler Radio a couple weeks...

A YouTube Legend Calls It A Career

Brian Walker

Four years ago (I can’t believe it’s really been that long – I don’t think I even had a blog then), Arkansas’s Brian Walker earned a spot in Internet lore with this remarkable Academy Award-nominated performance against Ole Miss (ten million bonus points to anyone who can adequately explain why exactly he was so angry): If my math is correct, that incident occurred near the end of Walker’s sophomore season with the Razorbacks. Or...

This Is What I Want To Happen Whenever A Manager Argues

I wasn’t going to post this – partly because everyone and their brother had it this week, partly because I vividly remember watching it a few weeks ago but never thinking that something three years old was worth posting – but it has to be done, for a minor league blog without video of one of the greatest ejections of my lifetime is not much of a minor league blog at all. Actually, now...

It’s the End of the World As We Know It

Sometimes we get emails from minor league teams about upcoming promotions, celebrity appearances, or player rehab outings. Most of the time, I intend to write about the event, but get busy doing something else and put it off long enough that it’s no longer relevant. You can go ahead and file this one under “Things That Terrify Me And Must Be Written About Now”: The fist pump is a celebratory gesture that was recently...
