Bus Leagues Express: April 12

Top stories Gwinnett makes huge comeback: Leading 12-5 in the top of the 9th, Norfolk fans were probably confident the game was theirs. Three Tides relievers were unable to combine to record three outs without allowing the game to be tied. Jon Link issued three bases loaded walks, and an error on what would've been a sacrifice fly and the second out allowed another run to score. The Braves only had three hits in the entire inning. Neither team scored in the 10th, and a Jose Constanza triple scored two, and Adam Russell earned the save to preserve the wild 14-12 win. Empire State meets Buffalo in prospect battle: Rivalries don't really carry over to the minors, but the Mets are responsible for the situation the Empire State Yankees are in. They rejected the Yankees request to play home games in Staten Island as their territorial rights allow, but it still must have been frustrated by the Yankees. Dellin Betances was chased from this one early, allowing eight runs in 3.1 innings including three home runs. On the other hand, Jeurys Familia was sharp in Buffalo's 12-3 win in their home opener. Ft. Myers is the clubhouse leader for best promotion: It's still very early in the season, but the Miracle have a good promotion early. On Saturday's game against Bradenton, they'll be commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Titanic's... journey. The first 750 fans will receive seat cushions that double as floatation devices. That's just part of the fun fans can experience at the ballpark that night, and to top it off with an on-field note, Gerrit Cole will be pitching for visiting Bradenton. Wilmington (NC) closer to minor league baseball: Josh Leventhal at Baseball America reports that the Braves and Mandalay Sports Entertainment presented a plan to chip in private financing for a new stadium in Wilmington, North Carolina. They have an agreement in place with current affiliate Lynchburg to purchase the team and move them to Wilmington if a new ballpark is built. If the city accepts one of the partnership's public funding proposals, baseball will return to Wilmington where it has struggled before. Raul Ibanez, Derek Lowe, Jason Varitek and Shane Victorino are among the players who passed through prior incarnations. Did Wilmer Font's return to the rotation actually happen? Well of course it did, but he failed to record an out. It was his first start since July 5th, 2010 when he went down with an elbow injury that cost him all of 2012. He faced six batters, walking four and allowing two hits, and four of those runners came around to score. It's hard to get worse than that. It's important to not overreact because it's really difficult to come back from Tommy John surgery. If he has no further injury, he should go right back out in five days and make another start. Lakewood finally caught stealing: This probably isn't that notable because no team ever steals with a 100% success rate, but the BlueClaws entered the season with 18 straight steals without being caught. As of this morning, the second highest total of steals without being caught was nine, shared by a few teams. In the third inning, Gauntlett Eldemire was picked off first by lefty Adam Conley and thrown out trying to make it to second. Eldemire leads the team in steals with five, followed by outfielder Kyrell Hudson with four. Four BlueClaws have two apiece. Conley was called for a balk earlier in the game, so he may have an advanced knowledge of controlling the running game. Batters
